First.
This is supposed to be the exact opposite of SPAM. Hopefully you’ll find these emails interesting enough to stay subscribed. Or to even recommend them to friends. Maybe you’ll give me a little grace period to find my rhythm (again). But if all this isn’t for you, please unsubscribe without hesitation.
Then.
It has been a while. In the meantime, I’ve explored a variety of directions. Video and audio. Different outlets. Pros, cons, question-marks. Since I have some topics in mind that I believe could be really interesting and helpful, I wanted to find the best format and platform, right?
Wrong. Youtube godfather of vlogging Casey Neistat once said: „I have a simple rule when it comes to hardware. Always use the best camera you have at your disposal.“ I love that quote and its implications.
He didn’t say „the best camera money can buy.“ Not even „the best camera that I own and that is sitting in my studio across town.“ Instead, it’s about what is ready for use right here and right now. This email program, for example.
Mind you, I’m not talking about legal advice. I’m talking about linking up with people. About building and fostering relationships. And in that realm starting right now to do something reasonably well repeatedly and consistently is worth so much more than maybe doing something seemingly (!) perfect sometime.
Casey Neistat understands. I’m still struggling. Which is why he is a Youtube star and I’m…not. Granted, his insane creativity, shooting, editing and work ethic might also play a role.
Anyway…whenever you have a minute, why not think about the people you „should“ be writing to. Internally. Externally. Friends. Actual/former/potential Clients. Colleagues. Don’t make your version of my mistake. Screw the perfect platform. Screw perfect, period. Use a medium available right now. And go.
Finally.
I’m not sure yet about the rhythm of these emails. I want to release them at least weekly. Maybe more frequently. I’ll do my best to keep them interesting and relevant.
If you have any comments, are interested in a particular topic, if I make a mistake here or you’d just like to chat – I’d love to hear from you.
And if you know somebody else, who might also be interested in this – please share.
All the best,
Malte
