Expectations not as morally-loaded &#8222;great expectations&#8220;, but very practically as in &#8222;what will likely happen next?&#8220; Limit to your niche\/circle, if that helps. <br \/><br \/>How do clients perceive you &#8211; and what do they expect on that basis? What do your colleagues expect from you based on what you did so far and how they perceive you on a daily basis? Potential hires? Your circle of friends and contacts on LinkedIn? Others? Sum it all up and voil\u00e0, your brand.<br \/><br \/>This type of perspective can help to take the pressure off and give you a lot of flexibility. <br \/><br \/>First. There is no big &#8222;here I am&#8220; moment. No launch. No artificiality (unless you introduce it). By simply being where you are and doing what you do, you have created a set of perceptions and expectations all around you. It&#8217;s already there. Now you can start to shape it.<br \/><br \/>Second. It becomes a long-term process, not an event. Changes will be gradual, they will take time. But at the same time, they are possible and appear much more achievable. You would like to be perceived differently? Ok, start doing things in a way that makes people expect different things from you. You didn&#8217;t like the look of that post, the sound of that text and how people interact with it? Work on it in isolation, next time it&#8217;ll be easier&#8230;and better.<br \/><br \/>Third. One of the main benefits of adopting such a perspective is to focus on intentionality. Others will have expectations in relation to what you&#8217;ll do anyway. It might as well be helpful, aligned with what you want to do. How you do things matters.<br \/><br \/>To be very clear: none of this relieves you of doing the heavy lifting of strategic marketing, of getting really clear about what you do, how and for whom. And then getting the word out.<br \/><br \/>But it is a perspective that can help shrink the hurdle to get involved. It can be a great place to start, right here and right now.
